Family Portrait Promotion Ceremony at President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Soldiers’ Home

It’s not every day that you get to witness an Air Force promotion ceremony, and this one was extra special because it took place at President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Soldiers’ Home in Washington, D.C. We started the celebration with a tour of the cottage and learned that it was built in 1842. During the Civil War, President Lincoln and his family relocated to the Soldiers’ Home for the “hot season.” It was at this cottage where Lincoln made some of the decisions that defined his presidency, including decisions that resulted in the creation of the Emancipation Proclamation. I think we all enjoyed the experience of walking up the original set of stairs President Lincoln once took to the second level of the cottage, and gazing out the windows at a view he once enjoyed. It was a magical and memorable place for a promotion celebration. Congratulations Colonel. Enjoy the photos!
